IHG Points - Easy to earn and fun to Burn

IHG Points - Easy to earn and fun to Burn

IHG is one of the biggest hotel groups in the world with thousands of properties literally everywhere which range from the luxurious Intercontinental Hotels, in the worlds most high profile cities to highway side Holiday Inns and everything in between. At some point in time you will have stayed at an IHG property.

What I think is great about the group is they have a very active rewards program. There are constant promotions, sales, challenges offering bonus points and reduced rates which keep you engaged and certainly in my case relatively loyal.

The quarterly Accelerate promotion gives participants a range of challenges to complete  which can earn substantial bonus points. These are tasks like staying in 3 different brands 9,000 points, 2 stays in a Crowne Plaza 7,000 points, 1 weekend stay 5,000 etc. complete all three and get another 10,000 bonus. These can rack up fast, if of course they work for you.

Right now the have 4X promotion going which essentially gives you 1,000 bonus points your first stay, double points your second stay, triple your third and four times the points on your fourth. This runs to January and again could lead to quite a few bonus points.

But what are you gonna do with the points? They have that covered too with regular discounts offering nights for 5k,10k and 15k at hotels around the world. Sometimes they suit you and are in places you might need to go, other times they don’t.

Like every loyalty program reward rates for the top properties are rising but when it’s so easy to rack up points there is still good value there. I have had amazing stays at the Intercontinental in Bangkok and Tokyo in points and was looked after very well in Holiday Inn resorts in Aruba and Phuket.

So the next time you have a layover and the rates at the Marriott are twice that of the Holiday Inn have a look at your offers. Saving money in one place could lead very quickly to a Mai Tai in a rooftop pool in Bangkok.
